MbTVTM
Metabyte has a rich legacy in employee innovation and entrepreneurship. In the late 90s we conceptualized and invented a method to record live television on a hard disk. Our MbTV technology remains a pioneer in the television industry.
Yes, this was before TiVo. But unlike TiVo, we followed the unbranded business-to-business model as opposed to their branded model.
We spun off MbTV into an independent business in 2000 and received $20 million in investments from our partners Thomson (the parent company of RCA), Seagate (a leading manufacturer of hard disks), Canal Plus Technologies (a division of Vivendi-Universal) and Scientific Atlanta (recently acquired by Cisco Systems).
Today MbTV technology drives the most successful DVR in the U.S. cable industry, the Scientific Atlanta's Explorer 8000. Every day millions of consumers at leading cable companies like Time Warner Cable, Cox, Adelphia and Rogers use MbTV to record and watch television.
