Company » History
Metabyte was founded in 1993 by Mr. Manu Mehta, a former marketing and engineering management professional from Texas Instruments. Manu remains our President and CEO.
Attracting top talent
Our penchant for top talent came into being when we found initial success in meeting the worldwide shortage of certain programming skills by cross-training programmers with different but related expertise. We built a formidable 3D graphics team by blending Linux gurus from Russia with experienced 3D professionals locally in Silicon Valley. By the mid 90's, Metabyte became a supplier of software development services to nearly all of the major RDBMS companies (i.e., Oracle, Informix, Sybase and Ingress). In spite of a shortage of programming talent in this still emerging market, we built upon our success by hiring professionals from India and Russia to complement our local team.
Fostering innovation
Innovation became a way of life at Metabyte early in our history when employees learned that Manu encouraged innovation and they could brainstorm with him for hours on end if they had a new idea. If the idea seemed viable, Manu devoted company resources to make it a reality. At first, they were small endeavors such as a tool for analyzing 3D graphics performance or a unique architecture for a client-server application. Then came bolder initiatives like Wicked3D that grew into a leading provider of 3D products for the PC gaming enthusiasts in North America and Europe. And, MbTV, the personalization and digital video recorder technology that was spun off as an independent company where companies like Thomson, Seagate, Canal Plus Technologies and Scientific Atlanta invested over $20 million. With time, this innovation cycle (i.e., where employees innovate, are encouraged by Metabyte, then innovate more) has only kept getting larger.
Investing in the future of our talent
Today Metabyte is a leading supplier of technology services to the enterprise market. Our company culture and the environment where entrepreneurs grow remain the same. An employee can propose a new focus area for technology services or a new product and possibly get to build and run his/her own Micro-Business Unit (MBU). The MBU concept has become an integral part of our company culture and continues to give us an ability to provide unmatched job satisfaction and career options. We have also created a private equity fund called Metabyte Ventures to finance the inventions of our employees and have assembled a team of leading professionals in the industry as our advisors.
